Șor Party demands to strop extension of Dniester Hydropower Complex

The MPs of Șor Party call on the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine to reach a compromise so as to stop the works to extend the Dniester Hydropower Complex. In a news conference, MP Marina Tauber said that if the extension is not stopped, the Moldovan citizens can remain without the man source of drinking water, IPN reports.

“We ask that this subject should be addressed as seriously as possibly, not superficially. The disastrous ecological impact can become irreversible not only for the Republic of Moldova, but also for Ukraine. Furthermore, according to experts in the field, including those from Ukraine, the projects implemented by the neighboring country can increase seismic activity in the region, the risk of erosion and landslides, can worsen the quality of water and create significant difficulties in the supply of the Republic of Moldova with water,” stated Marina Tauber.

The MP reminded of the statement on the current and future impact of the hydropower constructions on the Nistru that was unanimously adopted by Parliament this February, but is not put into practice.

Marina Tauber reiterated that the members of her party are ready to offer qualified expertise and experience in the environmental sector so as to prevent an ecological catastrophe on the Nistru. The MPs of Șor Party consider the Government should take measures to obtain support from the development partners for solving this problem.
