Some information on Pisari's case could be revealed in late October
Some information on the progress of the investigation into the death of a young man at the hands of a Russian peacekeeper in January is expected to be revealed later this month, Ion Dediu, department head at the Prosecutor General's Office, told Info-Prim Neo.
Further requests for international cooperation on the case of Vadim Pisari were sent to the Russian relevant authorities. “Later this month we hope to have some answers”, said Dediu without elaborating, citing the ongoing investigation.
Alexandru Postica, the lawyer of the Pisari family, said an application has been lodged with the European Court of Human Rights and a confirmation of its registration is awaited.
Postica said that little to nothing has been done to advance with the investigation and neither him nor the family were informed on any progress.
On 1 January 2012 Vadim Pisari was gunned down in his car by a Russian peacekeeper in an incident near a peacekeeping checkpoint installed in the buffer zone, known as the Security Zone, between the breakaway region of Transnistria and Moldova proper. Locals have staged protests in reaction, demanding the removal of the checkpoint, which didn't happen. Then Russian Ambassador Valeri Kuzmin blamed the victim, saying he had been drunk. The Russian authorities made sure that all the Russian nationals involved in the incident were relocated to Russia.
