Solution to conflicts in AEI can be found inside, Dirk Schuebel

The solution to the conflicts shaking the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) is inside the coalition and can be found by consistent and permanent dialogue, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel stated for Info-Prim Neo in a press briefing. “Generally speaking, I have the impression that the AEI parties are looking for a piece of advice from outside. The best advice is that they should build and foster the dialogue between them, inside the alliance. The best solution to the existing problems is to have discussions and conversations,” said the Ambassador. He also said that these disputes inside the AEI are normal up to a certain limit. “Even if these conflicts do not leave a very good impression, I assure you that a number of European states are now experiencing similar disputes. This is a facet of democracy, of a democratic country. In fact, it is natural when there are different views on certain aspects and elements within an alliance, when there is a coalition. They must be certainly discussed, but the limits should not be exceeded. The personal appraisals and insults should be avoided,” said Dirk Schuebel. He expressed his satisfaction with the way the reforms have been implemented in Moldova during the last two years. He made the assessment in the context of the internal reforms, which is the most important condition for the EU to provide support to Moldova on the path to European integration. “I think the alliance has been rather successful in bringing Moldova closer to the EU during the last two years. We intensified contacts and bilateral visits and started to negotiate a number of areas that are important both to Moldova and the EU. This fact enabled us to know each other better and this is a very important aspect. I believe that now we know better the strong points and the weak points. This is another important accomplishment of the alliance,” said the Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova. He did not share the concerns expressed earlier by certain political circles, which said the AEI passed few pieces of legislation concerning the European integration process. “Firstly, many laws have been adopted earlier. Secondly, it is probably unreasonable to adopt many laws before the talks on the Association Agreement are finished as certain laws may need to be amended,” said Dirk Schuebel. According to him, the effects of the reforms implemented today will be felt in the future. “Many of the activities carried out now by the Government will have effects only after a certain period of time. In general, some of the reforms can have visible effects immediately, but usually the effects are felt in several years. During the discussions and conversations I had with the three representatives of the AEI, I realized that all of them are interested in preserving the European integration course and this is commendable. Even the Communist opposition, which sometimes makes comments that are not at all laudable, convinced me that they continue to be in favor of Moldova’s European integration,” said Dirk Schuebel.
