Members of the public association “Solidary Parents” say that the quality of educational services in Chisinau has worsened, while the policies pursued by the Chisinau City Hall have an evident antisocial tinge, especially in relation to children. According to the activists, this was also seen recently, when the municipality decided to stop funding groups with extended hours for students.
In a news conference hosted by PN, executive director of “Solidary Parents” Ala Revenco said that the stopping of funding for groups with extended hours can endanger the security of primary school students. It can also generate problems related to their academic standing given that the students do their homework at the groups with extended hours.
“We see that the Chisinau City Hall has an antisocial policy, especially in the field of education and women’s rights. Particular principles of good governance are violated. The citizens are not consulted. Citizens’ opinion is not taken into account. They are not even asked what matters to them and what services they need in this capital city of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Ala Revenco.
The association drew up and published a petition with the slogan “Save on concerts, not on children’s safety and future”. Through this petition, the members of “Solidary Parents” ask the mayor of Chisinau municipality to include the expenses necessary for the functioning of the groups with prolonged hours in the municipal budget for 2024.
Leo Ogaryov, a member of the civic initiative “Alternative City Hall”, as a parent too said that the groups with extended hours offer them the opportunity to calmly work as they know that their children are safe under the supervision of the teacher. At the same time, for children this means a method of socialization.
Parent and civic activist Natalia Olyatovski said that since the groups with extended hours will no longer be financed by the municipality, the parents will have to pay for the teacher to work overtime. Or the parents will have to pay a nanny to go and pick up their child from school. Furthermore, the kindergarten hours are also reduced, while her working hours end at 6 p. m.
The kindergarten program is also a problem for Eugenia Bordeianu, a member of the association “Solidary Parents”. According to her, today the parents are constrained to work until 5 p.m. in the best case. If the parent has a job at the other end of city, they have to constantly ask for permission from the employer to leave earlier. “Obviously, a work program by 4 p.m. for me as a mom is detrimental to our family budget. And I am sure that many parents, many mothers will understand me very well,” stated Eugenia Bordeianu.
