A National Army soldier was wounded fatally from a gun discharged accidentally in the evening of July 12. According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Defense, the accident happened following the violation of the security norms at a guard post of the Balti motorized infantry brigade No. 1 “Moldova”. The gun was used unlawfully.

The Military Prosecutor’s Office started a criminal case and is conducting an investigation into the incident. A special commission of the Ministry of Defense launched an internal inquiry.

The 19-year-old soldier was from Dusmani village of Glodeni district. He was drafted into the army in January.

Anatolie Scortescu, head of the Balti Municipal Hospital’s Emergency Department, has told IPN that the young man was brought to the hospital by a group of servicemen at about 11pm on July 12. He was in a serious condition as he lost a large amount of blood owing to a bullet wound in the inguinal area. He died on the operating table because of hemorrhage.
