Soldier drafted into army illegally is subject to psychological pressure, NGO

A young man who was recently drafted into the National Army sought help from the International Association “Pacifism without Borders” after the Prosecutor General’s Office ignored the complaint where the soldier says that he was called up without his written consent and that he is subject to psychological pressure.

In a news conference at IPN, the chairman of the Association “Pacifism without Borders” Anatolii Gutu said that the young man told the members of the municipal drafting commission that he is pacifist and pleads for the alternative military service. However, he was drafted to the Cahul Motorized Infantry Brigade No. 3 on October 29. The soldier submitted a complaint to Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin and Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta, but all in vain.

“The young man was called up illegally. Under the drafting regulations, the young men must give their consent to being called up in written form, but this didn’t happen. His right to challenge the drafting commission’s decision was violated,” said Anatolii Gutu.

Members of the Association “Pacifism without Borders” said that they discussed with inferiors of the minister of defense, who told them that the soldier cannot be discharged from the army because there are no reasons for this. Thus, the young man’s constitutional rights to freedom and free choice are violated.

Anatolii Gutu said he possesses information about cases of abuse among servicemen, which he will report to the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva. He suggested creating parents commission to monitor the situation and the observance of human rights.
