Soldier beaten by corporal loses spleen

A National Army soldier was beaten by his corporal in the evening of September 20. After taking multiple hits in the abdomen, he was taken to the Military Hospital where his spleen was removed, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the corporal had beaten the soldier of the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion for not obeying the order to join the evening alignment. The soldier was taken to the hospital because of the acute pain and underwent surgery. The Chisinau Military Prosecutor’s Office initiated a prosecution against the corporal for violation of the statute rules regarding relations between servicemen. In a similar case, the investigation has been already finished and the prosecutors sent the case to court. A serviceman by contract of the Guard Battalion of the National Army is charged with “Acts of violence against a military”, according to the Penal Code. The prosecutors found that in the evening of August 8, a lieutenant approached a soldier and punched and kicked him with no apparent reason. The beaten soldier suffered a closed abdominal trauma, including a spleen injury and other life-threatening wounds. As a result, he was hospitalized, lost his spleen and declared unfit for military service. If the lieutenant is found guilty, he risks between 3 and 12 years of jail. In 2011, a soldier of the 2nd Brigade of Motorized Infantry who had beaten his comrade, who lost his spleen, was sentenced by the Buiucani District Court to 3 years and a month in jail.
