History of Polish people can serve as an example for Moldova, historian

The history of the Polish people can serve as an example for the Republic of Moldova. It is an example of how one that is dismembered and persecuted should act for not losing the national and linguistic identity, Doctor of History Lilia Zabolotnaya was quoted by IPN as saying.

In the opening of a scientific conference hosted by the National Museum of History of Moldova, centering on the Moldovan-Polish relations on the 100th anniversary of the regaining of independence by Poland, Lilia Zabolotnaya said the official political relations between Moldova and Poland were established in 1387. As regards the scientific component, the high-level relations started to be fostered in 2000. Since then, based on a number of agreements signed with Polish universities, fact-finding visits were organized for Moldovan teachers to Poland for exchanging experience. Moldovan researchers were offered scholarships and these could work as part of the scientific community in Poland.

Poland’s Ambassador to Moldova Bartlomiej Zdaniuk said that 2018 for his country means a century from the moment it left many years of pain and suffering behind. Poland managed to regain the desired independence. “We know very well that independence is not forever. On the contrary, it is something for which we must make effort and struggle and not only with arms in our hands. We must struggle by the daily effort at our workplaces and everywhere we are,” stated the ambassador.

Coordinator of the Humanistic Sciences and Arts Section of the Academy of Sciences Victor Ţvircun said the history of the Moldovan-Polish relations is centuries old. Relations were established on different dimensions and their studying brings benefits to both of the countries. “During a number of decades, Poland and our country went through a series of temptations and difficulties and the fact that independence was regained is the most important fact for the two countries,” noted Victor Ţvircun.

According to the head of the Arts and Creative Industry Division of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research Orest Dabija, the historical relations are developed now and this is gladdening. “There are many good things we could learn from the Polish people. There are many common elements in our traditions,” he stated.

The Independence Day of Poland celebrated on November 11 is the national holiday of Poland. The country regained its independence in 1918, after 123 years during which its territory had been controlled by Austria-Hungary, Prussia and Russia.
