Socialists to put forward legislative initiatives in support of pensioners

The Party of Socialists considers the pensioners in Moldova represent the poorest section and will thus propose a series of legislative initiatives designed to improve their living conditions. The Socialists suggest raising the pensions and disability allowances for these and providing them with free dental prostheses, IPN reports.

The Socialists propose instituting an equal pension for everyone, no matter who retires – a prosecutor or a teacher – and raising the lowest pension to the subsistence level.

“Our pensioners do not have teeth and this is an indicator of the poverty level. We insist that the state should provide free dental prostheses. We also need a national employment strategy to motivate the young people to remain in the country. We drafted bills and amendments to the state budget and request the minister of finance to come to Parliament to present the relevant documents as soon as possible. There is money in the country, but this must be channeled correctly,” Ion Ceban, who heads the Socialist group on the Chisinau Municipal Council, said at a press conference.

Socialist MP Elena Hrenova said that a small percentage of people in Moldova become now rich, while over 600,000 are pensioners and persons with disabilities who live at the poverty line. The veterans and persons with disabilities are in the worst situation. The Party of Socialists is the only party that struggles for the stolen US$1 billion to be restored because this money will enable to index the pensions two times a year and to increase them by at least 20%.
