The Socialist group will propose that the Chisinau Municipal Council should transfer all the plots of land that are municipal property under public management until the General Urbanistic Plan is approved. “What is public property can no longer be used as plots for construction,” the group’s leader Ion Ceban told a news conference on June 13, IPN reports.
Ion Ceban also raised the subject of the demolition of the Gaudeamus Cinema. According to him, the municipality should initiate negotiations with the owner so as to buy the building back. “This plot can be expropriated for erecting health, sports or cultural facilities on it,” stated the municipal councilor. “We suggest allocating 15 million lei for initiating the construction of a cultural center in that place.”
The owner started to demolish the Cinema last week, but the demolition works were stopped on June 11 by an order made by deputy mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu following protests mounted by a group of citizens who are dissatisfied with the demolition of the building and an interpellation filed by the elected mayor of Chisinau municipality Andrei Nastase. The building situated at 4 Vasile Alecsandri St has been privately owned since 2004. On February 27, 2018, the City Hall issued an urbanism certificate for designing the zonal urbanistic plan for the given plot on which a residential complex is to be erected.
