The Party of Socialists is requesting that social guarantees be introduced to offset “uncontrolled and unjustified” spikes in prices. According to the party, vegetable prices rose by as much as 40% in a year and this must be treated as an emergency.
The Socialists said in a press release they are outraged by the failure of the government and independent regulatory agencies to respond to the sharp rise in some consumer prices. “Profiting from political uncertainty, speculators of all kinds have started preying on the most vulnerable groups of people in our country”.
Such an increase in agricultural prices, say the Socialists, is not warranted by the actual situation in the relevant sector. As for the rising fuel prices, they “look cynical and insulting” given that spring fieldwork is in full swing now. “The Socialists have always been for an active role of the state in economy, including in terms of prices”.
The party says the government has a duty to support the population in such conditions, especially the vulnerable groups. One concrete solution would be to index pensions at a higher rate, the Socialists propose.
