The group of the Party of Socialists on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) prepared and signed a draft decision concerning the holding of a referendum on the dismissal of Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. The group’s leader Ion Ceban said the draft decision will be transmitted to all the Chisinau councilors and these will be able to present the own amendments and to sign it, IPN reports.
According to Ion Ceban, the draft decision was signed by all the 19 councilors of the Party of Socialists. Thirty-four votes of councilors are needed for the referendum to be initiated.
The leader of the Socialist councilors said that if these signatures are not secured, they will follow another path – will initiate a referendum based on the signatures collected from residents. The Socialists are ready to create an initiative group to collect these signatures. “The dismissal of Chirtoaca is a goal pursued not only by the Socialists, but also by all those who are concerned about the fate of this city,” stated Ion Ceban.
The Socialists propose that the referendum should be held simultaneously with the presidential elections, which is on October 30.
Earlier today, the Socialists left the meeting hall of the CMC, saying they will not take part in meetings if all the items from the agenda, except for the Council’s regulations, are not sent back for reexamination.
