Members and sympathizers of the Party of Socialists mounted a protest after searches were carried out at the home of the president of honor of the party, ex-President Igor Dodon. The protesters chanted in front of the Parliament Building: “No to political revenge!”, “No to state capture!”, “We want correct justice!” and “Don’t touch opposition!”, IPN reports.

The Socialists described anticorruption prosecutors’ actions as political revenge and a bad show. PSRM executive secretary Vlad Batrîncea said that they will mount protests all over Moldova as from tomorrow in favor of democracy and justice. He criticized the PAS government, saying this fights against the opposition trough political cases and intimidation and the searches at Igor Dodon’s house are an attempt to instill fear in society, but they will not give up.



MP Grigore Novac said the PAS government threatens the opposition with cases each day. “What they do is nothing but a crime against the own people, which does not have statute of limitations. We are daily threatened with prosecutors, but they will not jail us all. They will not scare us with such methods,” he stated.

MP Petru Burduja said the steps taken by the government today lead to a profound social and economic crisis in the country. If society does not combine forces, Moldova will remain without future.



The forces conducted searches at the home of former President Igor Dodon. Similar actions are taken at other locations, at real estate units of property registered in the name of other persons. According to prosecutors, the searches are carried out as part of the criminal case started over reasonable suspicions of passive corruptions, acceptance of financing for the political party from a criminal organization, betrayal and unjust enrichment.

It was later reported that Igor Dodon was arrested, but representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office didn’t confirm this, saying they will provide details later.
