Socialists’ leader confers on political situation in Moldova with CE Secretary

The leader of the Socialist Party of Moldova (PSRM) Igor Dodon had a meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland in Strasbourg. The discussion centered on the political situation in Moldova and methods of unlocking the political crisis, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Party of Socialists. The European official was informed about the latest political developments in Moldova and the role played by the Socialists in the political processes. Igor Dodon reiterated that the political crisis in Moldova can be overcome if the head of state is elected by the current Parliament or if early legislative elections are held provided that the presidential elections fail. Three weeks ago, Igor Dodon and Thorbjorn Jagland had a phone conversation that focused on the PSRM’s stance on the ruling alliance’s intention to hold a constitutional referendum. The Socialists’ leader said they consider the head of sate should be an apolitical person. The head of the group of Socialists in Moldova’s Parliament Igor Dodon is paying a working visit to Brussels and Strasbourg on February 6-7.
