The Socialists Party of Moldova “Patria-Rodina” (PSRM PR) considers that the current Parliament is nonfunctional and the non-election of the President of Moldova confirmed this. In a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo to sum up the results of the political year 2009, the party's president Eduard Smirnov said the Parliament should be dissolved as it could not elect the head of state. “Early parliamentary elections must be organized as soon as possible,” Smirnov said. Speaking about the results of this year, Eduard Smirnov said the change of power in Moldova generated essential negative modifications at the internal and foreign levels. The Socialists consider that the new power promotes the interests of the foreign capital to the detriment of the national interests. The leader of the PSRM PR also said that the Alliance for European Integration is non-representative. “The Alliance does not take into account the people's choice. About 60% of the voters did not support such a form of government. Furthermore, the Alliance does not have its own political doctrine as it is based on an elementary anti-Communist option.” The party's administration believes the Democratic Party and its leader bear overall responsibility for the acts of the present government coalition. The Socialists say that the present government orchestrates attacks on the mass media and violates the people's rights to freedom and information. Eduard Smirnov stressed they make common cause with the television channel NIT, which the authorities want to close. Dmitri Harabari, a member of the National Council of the PSRM PR, said the decisions that the new power takes have a negative effect first of all on agriculture and that the most serious consequences will be felt next year. According to Harabari, one of the consequences is that from January 1, the farmers will be refunded not 20% of the VAT, but only 8%. Another member of the party, Eugen Cojocari, drew attention to the haste in which the power wants to modify the Constitution. In the end, the party's leader Eduard Smirnov said the PSRM PR considers the left-wing patriotic forces should join efforts and create a force that could oppose the present government.
