Dozens of members and supporters of the Party of Socialists today attended a march celebrating “the 72nd anniversary of Moldova’s liberation from the Fascist occupation”. The march started at the Arch of Triumph and moved towards the Eternity Memorial Complex, where people laid flowers, IPN reports.
PSRM chairman Igor Dodon said that every year, on August 24 or around, the Socialists organize events marking the “liberation of Moldova from the Fascist yoke”. “Between August 20 and 29, 1944, the famous Iasi-Chisinau operation took place here and in just 9 days Moldova was completely freed from Fascist occupation. Today, I am here with my party colleagues and our supporters to walk the Victory March and to show clearly that we don’t forget what our veterans did in order to allow us to leave peacefully on this land”, said the politician.
Zinaida Greceanii, head of PSRM’s parliamentary group, told the gathered people this is a day of remembrance and celebration. “Whatever current politicians say, those who want to rewrite history, this is the day of Moldova’s liberation, when the Iasi-Chisinau operation was completed. We cannot and don’t have the right to forget. We cannot forget those who fought in the Great Patriotic War, including for our Moldovan lands”, said the MP.
Fellow Socialist MP Vladimir Turcan stressed that a country that doesn’t respect history has no future. “The Iasi-Chisinau military operation is the operation that completed the liberation of Moldova, in its current borders, from the Fascist forces. I am sure that we mustn’t respect only history, but also those who made this history – our veterans”, said the Socialist.
