Socialists continue protests: Freedom to Dodon!

Sympathizers of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) led by Socialist MPs mounted a new protest in central Chisinau. They walked to a number of state institutions, demanding that the president of honor of PSRM Igor Dodon, ex-President of the Republic of Moldova, should be set free.

The party’s executive secretary Vlad Batrîncea said in front of the Parliament Building that PSRM will not tolerate the pressure and political revenge of the PAS government. What the government now does with regard to Igor Dodon is a crime that does not have statute of limitations. The methods applied now by PAS against the opposition will have a boomerang effect that will ultimately lead to the collapse of the current government.

MP Bogdan Țîrdea said that it is for the first time in Moldova’s history that a former President is arrested, on an invented pretext.

MP Alla Darovannaya noted that it is one more day of bad life in Moldova. “They are telling us that the situation is bad everywhere and that inflation is high. But this is not so. We have the highest inflation in the region, the largest budget deficit in the history of the Republic of Moldova, which means that in several months the government will not have money for salaries and pensions. Regrettably, a request was made to raise the gas rates, but the government says that this is not our problem. It is yet our problem as the gas is a strategic product. If winter starts without gas, there can be no solutions,” stated the MP.

Socialist councilor on the Chisinau Municipal Council Alexandr Odintsov said the ruling party failed in all the areas and, to hide these failures and its incompetence, PAS stages shows with the arrest of political opponents.

From the Parliament Building, the protesters walked to the Government Building, chanting “Freedom to Dodon!”, “Down with the Government!”, “Down with Maia Sandu!”, “No to dictatorship!”, “Shame, Gavrilița!”, “Resignation!” etc.

Following searches at the home of ex-President Dodon and at other real estate units registered in the name of persons who are close to him, Igor Dodon and his brother-in-law were placed under arrest for 72 hours. The two are featured in a criminal case started over passive corruption, acceptance of funding for the party from a criminal organization, treason and unjust enrichment.
