Representatives of the Party of Socialists said the Moldovan education system worsened in quality during the past few years and they are ready to assume the reforms needed in this sector, IPN reports.
According to Alexandr Usatyi, municipal councilor in Balti and former teacher, said the backsliding in education became more visible after 2009. Schools were closed and other problems appeared as a result and these made education inefficient. The education programs are overloaded at all subjects and the students cannot cope with such a large amount of work. Introducing video cameras at Baccalaureate exams was a mistake.
Socialist councilor on education problems Ala Ursu-Antoci noted the per-student financing of education institutions is a catastrophe and the financing per institution used until 2009 should be restored. The post of vice director for education at education institutions should also be reinstated.
Socialist MP Vladimir Odnostalko said the quality of education worsened after many schools were closed or reorganized. A number of 83 schools were closed during the past three years alone. As to teachers, almost 10,000 teachers have been dismissed since 2010. 27% of the teachers are older than 60. “This shows the young people do not come to the system as the profession is not attractive. We want to restore its attractiveness,” stated the MP. He also said the system should be reformed, starting with the Education Code.
