Mayors who decline to join the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) are facing abuse and pressure, claimed Grigore Novac, a deputy from the Bloc of Communists and Socialists. Alongside Vadim Groza, the mayor of Soldanesti, Novac accused state institutions of being used as tools of political blackmail, describing these actions as an attack on local democracy, reports IPN.

Mayor Vadim Groza recounted what he called abusive searches conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA) at his home, office, official car, and even at his sister’s residence, just one day before the city of Soldanesti's patronal feast. According to Groza, the searches were linked to alleged corruption involving a 2022 tender awarded to a favorable bid. He emphasized that these actions were a form of intimidation stemming from his refusal to join PAS.

"They came at 6 in the morning, frightened my family, and confiscated my personal savings, which had no connection to the accusations raised. It's clear that these are political actions triggered by my refusal to join PAS", Groza said.

Deputy Grigore Novac declared that the Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) strongly condemns such actions and publicly warns the institutions involved to respect the law and abandon intimidation practices. PSRM expressed solidarity with its mayors and anyone fighting against what it calls a dictatorship imposed by PAS.

"In these presidential elections, the citizens showed you your place and how much respect and esteem you and your party have in society. Parliamentary elections are not far off, and everything will change entirely. Calm down and stop attacking the mayors, because we will not allow you to trample on them. We will stand by them every time you try to intimidate them", concluded PSRM Deputy Grigore Novac.
