Socialist councilors of Chisinau said the City Hall cuts down healthy and young trees with the aim of freeing place for paid parking lots and for leasing out plots on which to erect constructions at a time when old and decaying trees fall down in yards and over cars. But the municipality ignores inhabitants’ requests to fell these, IPN reports.
Socialist councilor Dinari Cojocaru told a news conference that trees are cud down in the municipality for the false reason that these are old and sick. The trees are actually felled to clear areas for building parking lots and for other constructions such as the Kaufland stores.
The Socialists suggest approving a draft decision by which the green areas will be declared public places and the illegal felling of trees will be thus avoided.
In another development, councilor Alexandr Odintsov said that last week the Socialists asked to immediately convene a meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council to examine only the draft 2017 municipal budget in the second reading and local taxes, but there was called a meeting whose agenda includes mainly land-related issues.
Contacted by IPN, head of the Chisinau City Hall’s press service Vadim Branzaniuc said the municipal administration will not comment on the statements made by Socialist councilors.
