The Socialist MPs, alongside the leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon, laid flowers on the bridge over the Nistru River. “The tragic events of 1992, related to the Transnistrian conflict, became the gloomiest and saddest page in the modern history of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Igor Dodon, being quoted by IPN.
The politician noted he is grateful to the peacekeeping forces that have maintained peace and safety on the banks of the Nistru during approximately 30 years.
Igor Dodon also said that in the recent past, he has heard dangerous statements made by Moldovan politicians, including members of the staff of the new President. He called on all the politicians to refrain from statements and actions that can escalate the situation on the Nistru.
In 2017, when he held office of President, Igor Dodon laid flowers at the monument to the Cossacks who fought in the armed conflict of 1992. The Nistru war veterans criticized the gesture, saying Igor Dodon humiliated them this way.
March 2 is a day of commemoration of the heroes killed in the Nistru armed conflict.
