The parliamentary group of the Party of Socialists requested to withdraw the bill to amend and supplement the Broadcasting Code from the agenda of the December 7 sitting of Parliament, IPN reports.
Socialist MP Vlad Batrancea said the bill violates the resolutions of the Council of Europe and OSCE and is designed to establish dictatorship and promote anti-democratic values. The Constitution guarantees the freedom of expression, freedom of the media and freedom of thought, while this bill flouts these.
Head of the Communist parliamentary group Inna Supac said the previous attempts to introduce the so-called struggle against the pro-Russian propaganda in other draft laws were harshly criticized by the country’s partners.
When being put to the vote, the Socialists’ proposal was rejected by a majority of votes of those attending the sitting.
The bill to amend and supplement the Broadcasting Code was submitted by the MPs of the Democratic Party and the European People’s Party of Moldova. Its goal is to secure the information space by limiting the broadcasting and retransmission on Moldova’s territory of news, feature, political and military programs from states that didn’t ratify the European Convention on Transfrontier Television.
