Socialist lawmakers intend to dispute the July 18 decisions of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) by which the institution allowed raising the electric power and natural gas tariffs. For the purpose, Socialist MPs Ion Ceban and Vasile Bolea submitted a preliminary application to the Agency. If the institution does not take measures within 30 days, the MPs will go to court, IPN reports.
Ion Ceban said the challenged decisions were adopted in breach of the law. “The ANRE didn’t publish the draft decisions 30 days before the approval of the new tariffs, as required by law. We demand annulling these decisions. If the Agency does not annul them of its own free will, we will demand in court that it should pay damages to the people itself,” said the MP.
Ceban also said that the Party of Socialists intends to mount large-scale protests and to picket the public institutions to demand annulling the ANRE’s decisions. “We will no longer tolerate such a situation, when the high-ranking thieves rob the already poor people,” he stated.
On July 18, 2015, the ANRE approved a 40% rise in the electricity tariffs and a 15% increase in the natural gas tariffs.
