The parliamentary group of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) expresses its full support for the package of laws for which the Chicu Government assumed responsibility. In a statement, the PSRM says that these measures taken during the state of emergency that was declared in Moldova are designed to help the citizens of the country, both employees and persons who remained without a job, and also the SMEs, IPN reports.

“Amid the world crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the national economic crisis generated by COVID-19, the Government decided to fully subsidize from the public budget the salary payments for employees who had to stop work following the institution of the state of emergency. 60% of the salary payments will be refunded to employers that were affected indirectly,” said the PSRM.

According to the party, these measures should be implemented immediately as the citizens wait for assistance now, not in a month or in several months. Exceptional measures are needed in exceptional situations so as to help the people and businesses. In such conditions, the Socialist parliamentary group made use of its legal right not to take part in today’s sitting of Parliament, as a political option in support of the measures taken by the Chicu Government.

“The parliamentary group of the PSRM reiterates its support for all the actions taken by the Chicu Government in these times of pandemic. Even if the coronavirus is an imminent danger to the whole world, the number of new infections with COVID-19 in Moldova grows slower than in other European states. This shows that our authorities took correct measures to limit the spread of the virus. The Government’s appropriate actions are appreciated by the World Health Organization and by independent experts,” runs the statement.

The April 2 sitting of Parliament, where the Government was to present the bill for which it assumed responsibility, didn’t have a quorum. The Socialist and Democratic MPs didn’t appear at the sitting. After the Parliament’s Secretariat announced that only 39 MPs were present, Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi said the sitting cannot be opened because a quorum is not present.
