Socialist councilors demand to repair roads in Chisinau by Easter

The councilors of the Party of Socialists on the Chisinau Municipal Council demand that the road repair works in the capital city should start without delay so that they are finished by Easter. In a news conference, Socialist councilor Alexandr Odintsov said the money for the repair of roads was allocated last autumn, in the amount of about 139 million lei, IPN reports.

“The state of the roads in Chisinau is deplorable. For two weeks we have witnessed a distressing picture. The people send photos of huge holes in the asphalt in which cars get stuck to us. The situation inside quarters is even more difficult. We demand that the Transport Division should immediately start the works. If the process is postponed for two more weeks, on Easter we will witness real chaos,” stated the councilor.

In another development, Alexandr Odintsov accused the municipal authorities of losing about 50 plots of land that are about 3 hectares in area owing to the illegalities committed by some functionaries during the past three years alone. The plots were used to erect multistory buildings or gas stations on them. In most of the cases, fictitious tender contests are held. As a result, the plots are sold to business entities through the agency of courts of law.

According to the councilor, the number of lost plots could be yet higher. A plot costs about €50,000 and the damage caused to the municipality thus amounts to billions of euros.
