The municipal councilors of the Party of Socialists accuse the administration of Chisinau of the non-collection of waste in the capital city during several days. The leader of the Socialist councilors Ion Ceban said it is an orchestrated measure aimed against the inhabitants of the municipality. In this connection, the Socialists said they will make requests to all the competent bodies so that these investigate the officials of charge of waste collection, IPN reports.

Ion Ceban said that on March 14 this year, the Chisinau Council adopted a decision concerning waste collection. The mayor of Chisinau and the subordinate institutions were empowered to held talks with inhabitants and the local administration of Tatareni village of Anenii Noi district to resume the storing of waste at the local dump that is set up appropriately and meets all the sanitary conditions. But practically nothing has been done in this regard and the blame is borne by Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca and those involved in the waste management process.

Ion Ceban also said that the inhabitants of Bubuieci commune of Chisinau municipality, where the waste was taken after the residents of Tantareni opposed storing waste near their village, requested to purchase equipment for treating the water and processing solid waste. The municipality decided to allocate 12 million lei for the purpose, but the equipment hasn’t been purchased. The problem of waste storage at the dump near Bubuieci wouldn’t have existed if decision makers had taken measures at the right time.

The councilor noted they possess information that among those who blocked the access of garbage trucks to the waste dump near Bubuieci were instigators advised to do so by members of the Liberal Party.

The Socialists consider the Liberals want to show that the situation gets out of control in the absence of Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, who is under house arrest.

After inhabitants of Bubuieci blocked access to the local waste dump, the waste in Chisinau hadn’t been collected for several days. On June 6, the Chisinau City Hall announced that the waste collection process was resumed. As a result of negotiations with residents of Bubuieci, it was agreed to store the household waste accumulated in Chisinau at the dump on Uzinelor St near Bubuieci for one more month. In the period, the municipality will identify another waste storage place.
