Socialist councilors against commemorative stone in central square of Chisinau
The group of Socialists on the Chisinau Municipal Council submitted a draft decision, whereby they ask taking away the commemorative stone placed in the Great National Assembly Square. In a communiqué, the Party of Specialists says that the stone was set up with violations of the legislation and the relevant procedures, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to councilors Elena Danu and Piotr Dontsov, Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca on June 25, 2010 made the order to place the stone without obtaining the consent of the Architecture and Urbanism Division
On June 24, 2010, there was published the decree of the then acting President Mihai Ghimpu, by which June 28, 1940 was declared the Soviet Occupation Day. The Chisinau City Hall was recommended to initiate the procedures for erecting a monument to the victims of the Soviet occupation and the totalitarian communist regime in the Great National Assembly Square, in front of the Government Building. On July 12, 2010, the Constitutional Court invalidated the given decree.
