Social service “Protected Dwelling” launched in Calarasi
The second social service “Protected Dwelling” that is intended for persons with mental disabilities was launched in Calarasi. It was designed by the Calarasi District Council and the Social Assistance and Family Protection Division in partnership with Keystone Human Services Moldova Association (KHSIMA), within the “Inclusive Community - Moldova” Program.
Aglaia Gurschi, senior specialist on problems faced by elderly people and persons with disabilities at the Calarasi District Council, has told Info-Prim Neo that four young persons aged between 18 and 35 were transferred to the protected dwelling from the Orhei boarding school for boys with mental disabilities.
”The three-room apartment was bought and outfitted with financial support from Soros Foundation Moldova,” said Aglaia Gurschi. Three social assistants will work with the four boys and teach them elementary things.
One of the boys wants to open a shoe repair workshop. For the time being, they are offered partial support and helped to develop the skills needed to be able to later live independently.
The “Inclusive Community - Moldova” Program is implemented by Keystone Human Services International Moldova Association in partnership wit the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, with the financial support of the Open Society Foundations/ Mental Health Initiatives of Soros Foundation Moldova. It is aimed at contributing to the reformation of the system for the social care and protection of persons with disabilities with a view to promoting their social inclusion.
As many as 1,356 persons benefited from assistance within the program so far. They included 686 children and adults with mental and physical disabilities and 670 parents.
