The social security agreement signed with the Kingdom of Spain takes effect on June 1. Under the agreement, Moldovan citizens who work or worked in Spain will have the right to claim different types of pensions and allowances, such as old-age pensions, pensions for disability caused by a general illness, pensions and disability benefits caused by an accident at work or an occupational disease, as well as survivors’ pensions,  IPN reports.

Each state will calculate and pay the pension proportionally to the contribution period recorded in this state, in accordance with its national legislation. In order to receive pensions and other social benefits stipulated in international social security agreements to which the Republic of Moldova is a party, the entitled persons need to submit an application to the National House of Social Insurance (CNAS)  or to the responsible institution of the other contracting state.

According to official data, about 22,000 citizens of the Republic of Moldova have settled in the Kingdom of Spain. The social security agreement was signed in Madrid on July 21, 2022.

Moldova has concluded social security agreements with 18 countries. These are: Austria, Bulgaria, Portugal, Romania, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, Belarus, Italy, Latvia, Greece, and Spain.
