Social security agreement between Moldova and Greece ratified by Greek Parliament

The citizens of the Republic of Moldova who work or worked in Greece will be able to receive a pension from this state when they reach the retirement age now that the social security agreement between Moldova and Greece was ratified by the Greek Parliament, IPN reports.

“Congratulations to everyone, especially to the potential beneficiaries of the agreement – the citizens of the Republic of Moldova who work legally in Greece. The relevant agreement was ratified by the Greek Parliament! After debates that lasted for over an hour, the main four parties of the Parliament voted in favor of the ratification of the agreement. Another two parliamentary groups abstained, but nobody voted against,” says the message of Moldova’s Embassy in Greece.

In accordance with the law, after the agreement is ratified by the Parliament of Greece, the document is to be promulgated by the President of Greece and will take effect in two months after the two states notify of the fulfillment of the internal procedures.

Immediately after the agreement comes into force, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Greece will organize online meetings with representatives of Moldova’s diaspora in Greece so as to provide explanations and to ensure discussions on the document.

The social security agreement between Moldova and Greece was signed on September 8, 2021. Under the document, each contracting state will pay the part of pension calculated proportionally to the contributory period recorded in this state.
