Social Development Center denies accusations of swindle
The public association “Social Development Center” denies the accusations of swindle made against it by the Prosecutor General’s Office, which launched an investigation following a notification from the State Tax Inspectorate, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Center is accused of illegally collecting by 53 lei from over 500 persons whom they promised apartments at low prices. During investigations, the prosecutors established that the organization does not have homebuilding projects and plots for construction.
The Center’s administration denied the accusations. “The Social Development Center cheated no one. All the persons who take part in the Social Apartments project were included in our registers. Nobody complained that they were cheated or misled by us,” Anatol Tuncu, who presented himself as the coordinator of the project, told a news conference.
He said that he found out about the criminal case started by the Prosecutor General’s Office from the media, after the conference where the case was made public. The Social Development Center is in litigation with the State Tax Inspectorate, which, according to the project coordinator, drew up certain documents incorrectly after carrying out inspections at the association last May.
Anatol Tuncu said the participants in the project are intimidated by the state bodies, threatened and told to file complaints against the association. “The money (which the Prosecutor General’s Office says was collected illegally – e.n.) represents donations that anyone can make,” he stated, adding that the homebuilding project is at the incipient stage.
The legal case was sent to the Buiucani Prosecutor’s Office.
