The Democratic MPs and the group of 14 MPs who left the Party of Communists on December 24 announced the creation of the Social-Democratic Platform of Moldova (PSDM). Members of the Platform said that during the next few days they will suggest a candidate for Prime Minister to the head of state, but didn’t provide details, IPN reports.
Ex-Communist MP Igor Vremea told a press briefing that the statement on the constitution of the Platform was signed by 34 lawmakers. By creating such a platform, they want to decisively contribute to overcoming the current political and economic crisis that hampers the country’s development based on the European course and the taking of social measures for the people’s benefit.
Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu said the Platform could become the nucleus of the future parliamentary majority. “We made a gesture by which we showed political responsibility for the problems faced by society and each citizen apart,” he said, noting that the Platform now has 34 members, but there are signals that more lawmakers will join it.
The MPs said the Platform remains open for dialogue with all those who share its principles. They refused to give details about the person who will be proposed for premiership, but said they are sure that the designated candidate Ion Sturza will not gain a vote of confidence in Parliament and a new attempt will be made to form the Government.
The Cabinet is invested by the votes of minimum 51 MPs.
