Social center for old people under construction in Cantemir district
The foundation stone of a social center for old people was laid in Pleseni village of Cantemir district. The center is being built as part of the “Concordia – For Our Parents” project that is financed by an Austrian charity organization, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a press release from the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child.
Mag. Ulrike Haselsteiner, the wife of Hans Peter Haselsteiner, the president of the German concern Strabag SE that financed the project, said that it is the duty of every citizen to help the elderly, stressing she was very glad to offer support to the old persons in Moldovan.
“Concordia. Social Project” started work in Moldova in 2004. The major objective of the organization is to support the disadvantaged persons, especially orphans, children from socially vulnerable families, persons in need and the elderly.
In 2008, the charity launched the “Concordia – For Our Parents” project. Initially, social centers were opened in Parata and Dorotcaia villages of Dubasari district. Then, there were opened 19 social canteens in Cahul, Leova, Orhei, Sangerei, Donduseni, Telenesti, Drochia, Soroca and other districts. The canteens provide the beneficiaries with lunch. The food for those that are ill or cannot move is brought at home by the bicycle or the cart. 1,300 old persons benefit from this service at present.
In November 2008, the organization decided to build 12 social centers that were to be erected according to new technology for assembling parts. “The centers built according to such technology are completed in about three months. The first center of the kind was inaugurated at the start of this year in Dubasarii Vechi village of Criuleni district,” the Ministry says in a communiqué.
The charity organization “Concordia. Social Projects” was founded in 1991 by the president of Concordia, priest Georg Sporschill. It implements projects in Austria, Romania, Bulgaria, and Moldova.
