The families whose average monthly income is lower than 742 lei per member can apply for social benefits and compensations for heat of 130 lei a month. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the Chisinau City Hall’s General Social Assistance Division Eugenia Ceban said the potential recipients of social benefits include the invalids, families with many children, pensioners, the unemployed persons registered with the National Employment Agency, people who look after a person older than 75, and, from January 1, 2011, 30 weeks pregnant women. The potential beneficiaries must file an application at the local social worker’s office. They must fill out a form and indicate their incomes and property and present a number of documents that are needed to verify and calculate their incomes. They are later notified if they are entitled to benefit. According to the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, 77,000 families may receive compensations for heat beside the 27,000 recipients of social benefits.
