Snowstorm delays flights at Chisinau Airport, causes traffic headaches across country

Strong lateral winds and blizzards are making de-icing operations, and therefore takeoffs impossible at the Chisinau International Airport, authorities announced.

As multiple flights have been delayed, passengers are urged to check for updates before heading to the Airport.

Meanwhile, the Government said relevant agencies are making every effort to respond to the snowstorm. National roads are being constantly patrolled, with snow removal and deicing operations in full swing. While there are no roads that are completely blocked at the moment, traffic conditions are difficult, especially for heavy vehicles.

The snowstorm also caused outages in about 40 localities in the north of the country and 26 localities in the central districts.

A code-orange severe weather advisory is currently in place across the country after a southern cyclone encountered a mass of artic air. Most of the snowfall is forecast for Monday, as the cold spell will continue until midweek.
