Law enforcers have uncovered the illegal activity of a group smuggling ethyl alcohol into Moldova and Ukraine. The suspects are facing 4 to 10 years in prison, IPN reports.

Prosecutors found that from the summer of 2023 until now, several people from different localities have been involved in the production, storage, transportation and sale of ethyl alcohol.

Law enforcement officers stopped a truck with 15 thousand liters of ethyl alcohol in the tank in the municipality of Comrat. The driver is a 38-year-old man, an employee of the company that owns the vehicle.

During the searches at the home of the administrator of the Ialoveni company, to which the truck belongs, police officers seized containers and tanks with 85 thousand liters of ethyl alcohol. Law enforcement officers also seized a minibus and a truck intended for the transportation of alcohol.

One member of the group is under house arrest and two others are wanted in connection with a criminal investigation.
