Smugglers caught at Cahul-Oancea customs post under arrested for 30 days

The two drivers and their two companions, who were caught smuggling the largest quantity of contraband in the last few years00 at the Cahul-Oancea customs post, were placed under arrest for 30 days. The contraband goods included precious metals and antique coins.

Press officer of the Customs Service Alina Sargu has told IPN that two of the smugglers – father and son – tried to take 13 kg of gold, 786 grams of silver, and 350 grams of precious stones over the border.

The other two wanted to smuggle over 700 antique coins and two Greek statures over the border. It’s not known if they are relatives.

The undeclared goods were being conveyed from Turkey in unaccompanied parcels.
