Two men died and property burnt in August in 7 fires caused by smoking in bed. According to the representative of the Firemen and Rescuers Service (SPP) of the Exceptional Situations Department, Dumitru Stavila, on August 10, a man aged 52, of the village Surchiceni, Causeni raion, being drunk, fell asleep with a lit cigarette and then asphyxiated. In similar circumstances, a resident of Alexandreni village, Sangerei raion, aged 45, died on August 11. On 13 August, in Bulboci village, Soroca raion, a house burnt down completely because a lit cigarette. The damages amount to 5,000 lei. Another case occurred on August 10 in an apartment of Ungheni town. Its owner, drunken and smoking, set on fire the apartment. Due to firemen’s prompt intervention, the owner of the apartment was rescued. Over the past week, SPP has registered on RM territory 27 fires, and in August - 72 fires which killed 4 persons.
