Smokers warned about danger of electronic cigarettes

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection warns the smokers that the electrically heated tobacco products of Philip Morris Manufacturing & Technology that are promoted in Moldova are dangerous and pose a threat to health and life, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Ministry says the iQOS device while heated produces vapors that contain nicotine and tar that are harmful to health. These products also contain non-tobacco additives that cause dependence on tobacco and other chemical substances. There is no evidence showing the given products are less harmful than the ordinary cigarettes and that they pose a lower threat to health.

The results of lab investigations conducted in 2016-2018 to determine the content of smoke emissions showed that these contained 0.47-0.49 mg of nicotine per unit, 4.3-5.3 mg of tar per unit and 0.2 mg  of carbon monoxide per unit. For comparison, in other brands of ordinary filer cigarettes, the content of nicotine varies between 0.01 and 0.9 mg per piece, of tar between 0.5 and 10 mg per piece, while of carbon monoxide between 0.5 and 10.0 mg per piece.
