Smoke detectors will be installed in homes of vulnerable families in several districts

Families with many children, vulnerable families, pensioners and persons with disabilities from Făleşti, Donduşeni, Briceni, Teleneşti, Cahul and UTA Găgăuzia districts will receive smoke detectors, which will be installed free of charge by firefighters. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations has initiated the campaign "A protected house, a saved life" in order to raise awareness.

According to IGSU, the purpose of the campaign, which aims to install more than a thousand smoke detectors, is to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning and to avoid the occurrence of fires, thus minimizing the risk of tragedy. The launch of the campaign took place in a residential house belonging to a family with many children, situated on the Butuceni street, in Chișinău, where earlier a fire took place.

Over the course of previous years, within the same campaign, 7094 smoke detectors were installed in the houses of 6669 families from 313 rural settlement from all over the country. There were six recorded cases in which the installations were triggered after the outbreak of fire, thus saving lives.
