Smirnov's invitation is a challenge, Marian Lupu

Acting President Marian Lupu considers that the invitation made earlier by the leader of the Transnistrian region Igor Smirnov to Prime Minister Vlad Filat is a challenge. On April 13, Marian Lupu stated for Info-Prim Neo that such a challenge should not be accepted. ”I’m glad that such an invitation was made to the Premier, not to me as it cannot be accepted. It looks like an ordinary challenge to me. I think that the Government has enough wisdom and experience to appropriately assess this invitation,” said the Acting President. He also said that the official Chisinau should establish a dialogue, including with representatives of the Transnistrian administration, but they should not accept such games as official visits of the kind. Earlier last week, the leader of the breakaway republic of Transnistria Igor Smirnov by an official letter invited Prime Minister Vlad Filat to Tiraspol to discuss problems of special importance to the regulation of the relations between Moldova and Transnistria. Shortly afterward, the Premier told the press that he will go to the left bank of the Nistru River, but not officially as he cannot pay official visits in his own country. He said that the date of the visit will be set when there is a very clear agenda and the visit will be aimed at opening the formal talks in the 5+2 format.
