Smirnov officially enters electoral race in Transnistria
The leader of the secessionist Transnistrian region Igor Smirnov was officially registered as a runner in the local presidential elections by the electoral authority of Transnistria on November 11, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the website of the Transnistrian news agency Olvia Press, Igor Smirnov submitted a list of over 11,000 signatures in his support, which is 2.8% of all the voters.
Among the other registered candidates are the chairman of the Supreme Soviet Anatoly Kaminski, the former Supreme Soviet chairman Alexei Shevchuk, and the leader of the Transnistrian Communist Party Oleg Horjan.
The elections will take place on December 11.
