Small passenger and parcel carriers took to the streets to demand that the authorities should legalize their business. Three weeks ago, the carriers submitted petitions to the Government, the Ministry of Transport and Parliament. As no reaction followed, they decided to mount protests.
One of the representatives of the protesters Iurie Tesa has told IPN that several meetings on the issue were held in the period, but the carriers weren’t invited to them. “We are concerned as they do something, but we know nothing,” he stated.
According to him, the small carriers are accused of avoiding paying taxes, but this is not true. “Today we came with a clear message: we want to work legally and want to pay taxes; we want to be sure that today or tomorrow we will not be banned from working,” said Iurie Tesa.
The protest involved the drivers of about 160 units of transport. About 2,000 small carries work currently in Moldova.
