The former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alexandru Slusari believes the new administration can examine and adopt the Magnitsky Law and the report of the Laundromat Commission. The former MP reminds that on March 29, 2019, all the MPs of the ACUM Bloc signed a bill that was generically called the Magnitsky act that envisions Moldova’s adherence to the Global Magnitsky Act. According to him, this will enable to penalize a number of persons from the Russian Federation who took part in large-scale money laundering operations and to punish criminal individuals from the Transnistrian region who became involved in similar schemes, IPN reports.
“With many difficulties, PPPDA in February 2021 determined the creation of this commission within which Missis Grigoriu had an excellent performance. Despite the enormous resistance put up by Parliament and a number of politicians, a broad report on the Laundromat chronology in the Republic of Moldova was presented and this contained tens of names of involved persons and the evident interference with the billion theft scheme and corruption of politicians, including a former Prime Minister. On the last 100 meters, the Platon-Plahotniuc-Shor grouping blocked the registration of the report,” Alexandru Slusari posted on Facebook.
According to him, in August at the latest, the new anti-oligarchic parliamentary majority can examine and adopt the Magnitsky Law and the Laundromat report, which can serve as solid evidence for stimulating the examination of this case that has been frozen by the Prosecutor’s Office.
