Former MP Alexandr Slusari, the representative of civil society at Energocom, says that soon the Russian company Gazprom will resume the supply of gas to the Transnistrian region. According to him, the gas will be delivered strictly in the volumes necessary for domestic consumption and without the possibility of producing electricity for the right bank, IPN reports.
Alexandr Slusari questions whether the Moldovan authorities should accept such an option, which, according to him, "does not correspond at all to Moldova's economic interests." But the blockage of the process of free gas supply to the Transnistrian region also entails particular risks to the keeping of peace in the country, Slusari warns.
The former executive director of the Farmers' Force Association said that "Russia, through this energy attack, forces Moldova to buy electricity at high prices in a crucial election year, which is a serious blow to the economy." "Moscow's goal is to obtain the economic collapse of the right bank, which would lead to the pro-European forces’ defeat in the parliamentary elections or even to a social uprising before the elections," said the former MP.
Alexandr Slusari believes that the Government must now promptly attract from foreign partners maximum financial resources for significant compensations, not only for the citizens, but also for the industry, especially the food industry.
"Inflation must not get out of control. Otherwise, the impact of the compensations paid to the population will be miserable. The galloping increase in prices will absorb them. Nor must we allow the reduction of jobs and the bankruptcy of industrial and agricultural enterprises," noted Slusari.
The former MP also suggests extending the bilateral contracts with Romania for the supply of electricity at fixed and reasonable prices, according to the model applied by Nuclearelectrica. "The purchase of electricity on the stock exchange in large volumes, according to the today-for-tomorrow formula, brings a lot of unpredictability and the risk that the purchase prices and, implicitly, charges will grow, especially because the thermoelectric plants will not work during the warm period. Charges above 6 lei with VAT will be unbearable for our economy," emphasized the expert.
Alexandr Slusari believes that the cohesion of the segment of society that does not want Moldova to become a victim of Russia's expansion is vital now. For the purpose, according to him, the ruling party should first of all realize the problem.
