Slusari criticizes Government’s farmer solutions

Deputy speaker Alexandru Slusari (PDA) says the solutions proposed by the Government for the drought-stricken farmers are practically impossible to implement and even those feasible would take too long. According to him, the Government is basically suggesting that farmers are now on their own in their relation with the banks and micro-credit organizations.

Alexandru Slusari said that the Agricultural Crisis Working Group met on Wednesday with farmers from 13 districts. “Farmers are making some concessions, even if they have been lied to by the prime minister,” declared Slusari.

He went on to add that the proposed loan rescheduling would not work legally. “This law will never be adopted, as the IMF is categorically against it.” As for the VAT refund, according to Alexandru Slusari, the measure will be adopted, but most likely the IMF will object. “Even if this measure has something to it, it will take time. The farmers understood this, that they have been deceived on these two subjects,” said Alexandru Slusari.

On Wednesday, the farmers proposed to allocate an additional 200 million lei. The deputy speaker believes that this money could be identified. Farmers gave the authorities two days to decide.
