A multifunctional complex with 35 floors and a height of 150 meters is to be built at the intersection of Negruzzi and Gagarin Blvds with Cantemir St in Chisinau, on the site of the Grand Hall shopping center. The Grand Tower will be the tallest building in the Republic of Moldova. The value of the investment is estimated at €100 million, and the works could be completed by 2028, IPN reports, referring to Logos Press.
The initiative belongs to "Manoli" company, and the project is carried out by architect Gheorghe Telpiz.
"It will be visible from any corner of Chisinau and will integrate harmoniously into the urban landscape," said the architect.
The multifunctional complex will have a total area of 75,000 square meters and will include a business center, an apart-hotel, restaurants and an observation deck on the top floor. There will be a shopping center of 35 square meters at the base of the building, and the three-story underground parking will provide 700 parking spaces.
According to the owner of "Manoli", businessman Mircea Baciu, both the Grand Hall and the Baby Hall will be demolished because shopping centers of this type are considered obsolete.
"Connecting two centers through a gallery is an outdated technology," Baciu said. The businessman noted that he decided to use this site for an innovative project, which will contribute to the modernization of the city.
Although there are no restrictions on the height of buildings in Chisinau, so far no skyscrapers have been built due to seismic risks and high costs. Currently, the tallest building in the capital city is the Atrium shopping center, which is 86 meters in height.
However, architect Gheorghe Țelpiz said that modern technologies allow such buildings to be erected even in seismic areas.
"The Japanese build skyscrapers in the sea. So, anything is possible with proper materials," explained the architect. According to him, all aspects have been carefully analyzed and the project will be carried out in a safe and risk-free way.
For the construction of the Grand Tower, "Manoli" company intends to attract foreign investors and is already holding preliminary discussions with specialized firms operating in Turkey and Shanghai. If the project receives the final approval, works could begin in the coming years.
