Skier Mirko Deflorian returns to World Cup

Mirko Deflorian, the Italian athlete who represents Moldova at international Alpine skiing competitions, returned to the World Cup after a pause of almost two months. On December 15, he ranked 61st in the Super G race held in the Italian mountain resort of Val Gardena-Groeden. Deflorian covered 540 meters in 1.24,87 minutes, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mirko Deflorian is the only representative of Moldova at the World Cup this season. Naturalized Austrian Georg Lindner has not yet scored the necessary number of points to compete in the Alpine skiing elite, while Swiss citizens Urs Imboden, 36, and Christophe Roux, 28, decided to take a pause in their career. Imboden intends to take part in the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. Urs Imboden was granted Moldovan nationality in 2006. Performing for Moldova, he finished 9th and 11th in the World Alpine Skiing Championships of 2007 and 2009. These are the best results achieved by Moldova in Alpine skiing. In the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympics, he ranked fifth as part of the Swiss team.
