Sixty libraries to be equipped with computers
Over 60 public libraries in Moldova will be equipped with computers for the public to have access to the Internet as part of the Novateca program, which is a pilot project of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Evan Tracz, director of the Novoteca program, told the press that six regional trainings centers would be opened in Soroca, Ungheni, Orhei, Leova, Ceadir-Lunga and Causeni, which will support the libraries in their continuous professional development and will offer free access to the Internet for the public. The libraries in six other districts, Drochia, Telenesti, Calarasi, Hancesti, Cahul and Taraclia will be transformed in centers of public access to the Internet.
Evan Tracz said that as a result 350,000 Moldovans would get free access to the Internet.
The process of equipping libraries with computers and other pieces of equipment will begin in January 2013. Overall, about 300 computers with Microsoft software and additional equipment will be donated to libraries during the pilot project to allow the libraries to provide a wide range of IT services to users.
