Sixth National Wine Day opens with awarding of big prize in winemaking

The sixth edition of the National Wine Day started on Saturday morning with the awarding of the big prize in winemaking and winegrowing and with theatrical performances by the wine companies that won the prize the previous years. During the inaugural ceremony in the Great National Assembly Square, President Vladimir Voronin handed over the diploma and the Big Prize for special merits in developing wine industry in 2007 to the director general of the Quality Wine Complex “Milestii Mici” Mihai Maciuca. The prize was offered for propagating an excellent quality of wine and for promoting Moldova’s image abroad. The Quality Wine Complex “Milestii Mici” was given the status of patrimony of the Republic of Moldova in 2005 and included in the Guinness Book of World Records as the owner of the largest quality wine collection in the world. The owner of the 2002 trophy for special merits in winemaking, the Wine Company “Cricova”, launched its new sparkling wine “Rozaliu” during the inauguration. Couples of brides and grooms danced a waltz under a golden confetti rain in the Great National Assembly Square, in anticipation that the sparkling wine will be drunk at all the ceremonies and holidays. The Balti Company “Barza Alba” SA, holder of the 2003 big prize, presented its cognacs “Prezident”, “Dragos-Voda” and “Sofia” through a performance. Under the songs of Catharsis band and Vitalie Dani, the joint company “Lion-Gri”, owner of the big prize in winemaking and winegrowing for 2004, announced that it is celebrating is tenth jubilee. This year, the company’s products were included in the catalogue of the best 1,000 wines in the world for the third time. The company “Dionysos Mereni”, who won the big prize in 2005, presented a folk dance performed by a group of young people. The winery “Purcari”, holder of the 2006 prize, staged a show with drums, fires, golden costumes and giant marionettes. Unlike the previous editions, the officials present at the inauguration this year did not give speeches. The quests of the National Wine Day can visit the exhibition pavilions and stands of 54 national wine companies set up in the Great National Assembly Square. Artistic performances will be held later. There will be awarded the winners of the competitions “Golden Tun”, “Best Presentation of National Cuisine”, “Golden Vine”, “Results Achieved in Making and Exporting Wine Products”, Treasury”, “Young Wine”, “Best Results in Organizing Wine Tourist Routes” and “Best Thematic Souvenirs”.
